Foreclosure By State Foreclosure By State
Am I obligated to a lease in the state of California if the house I am renting is in foreclosure?

Am I required to pay the rent for a house I am leasing in CA if the house is now in foreclosure and will be auctioned next month? I have said the conflicting information. I heard that I am obligated to the lease signed and other people tell me that in California the lease is zero if the house is in foreclosure. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

The contract is not null, is as valid as the day it was signed. You are still legally obligated to pay rent until after the auction. you stop paying the auction day and has 30 days to vacate to avoid legal problems. If you owe money for unpaid rent the landlord can still come after, still owed and it will look like an eviction (but not, she kept the money illegally) in your credit report. CA allows owners to pick up for 1 year with a collection agency, then apply to garnish your wages.
