If I buy a foreclosure I have to hire a remodeling contractor?
I am buying an REO Mississippi County. I was going to hire an inspector, plumber, electrician, etc, and do all the cosmetic repairs myself. Is this legal or would I be forced to hire a contractor and the sub all the work to turn this house? Thanks for any advice. Best Regards, James Sparks
First, check with your local county office see what permits you need. If it does so without a permit for remodeling may be the red label. You as a legal owner can be your own contractor and do repairs that do not require inspection. If you hire a remodeling contractor for electrical, plumbing, etc, ensure they are able to take permits for individuals and is used only licensed for this work so you can get insurance on the house without problems. Note that the electrical work and plumbing is less expensive if you do the demo work first and then flush their lines, etc. Best of luck.
